These signs, primarily from hotels and casinos,  date back to the days before computerized displays, and were usually constructed of sheet metal by skilled artisans. The lighting used hundreds or sometimes thousands of incandescent bulbs. These creations, some of them works of art in themselves, have taken on the patina of several decades in the elements. The faded paint, dented sheet metal, and rust make these signs all the more venerable.
